prepared and submitted to the Word of Life

Area Missionary in charge at least three (3)

weeks prior to the event or by the date

will be accepted at the discretion of Word of

Life.

C. Each presentation must be resubmitted by May

15th for International participation.

D. The presentation must be the work of the

strongly encouraged, but the actual production

work must be done hands on by the teen(s)

listed on the roster.

E. Participants should bring a copy of their entry

judging will be completed prior to the day of

presentation.

II. SPECIFIC CREATIVE WRITING - PROSE

INSTRUCTIONS

A. Choose a style from the following

subcategories and note the subcategory on

your Presentation Information Sheet.

1. Short Stories - In this style, you make your

points through action and incident, not

explanation. You may use dramatization

and dialogue, if you wish. Concentrate on

the single major point you wish to

communicate.

2. Biography - Christian leaders rise and fall

on the strength of the decisions they make,

not on the dates of their birth and death.

Concentrate on demonstrating character

and personality by incidence and

examples, not by history itself.

3. Feature Article - Creatively research the

nooks and crannies of your topic to find

unusual background material on which to

report enthusiastically. Concentrate on the

goal of entertainment while reporting actual

real-life, human-interest incidents in depth.

4. News Story - Develop the lead sentence

into a strong indicator of who, what, when,

where, why and how of the news in the

story. Then select the sequence of

information and report it (who, what, when,

etc.) in descending order from the most to

the least important items, using your lead

sentence as your outline.

5. Essay - Construct your first paragraph so

that its opening sentence or its closing

sentence becomes your thesis sentence

and states the main point of your essay.

Make every point of your outline directly

support that one sentence. Restate your

thesis in your last paragraph.

B. Entries must be written by one individual and

must be his or her own work.

C. Should be neatly typewritten on 8½ x 11 inch

paper. Must use dark letter-quality print.

D. Prose entries must be double-spaced.

E. Presentation must move readers toward

spiritual reflection or a spiritual decision.

F. Entries should be no more than 2000 words in

length, not including footnotes, title page, etc.

Computer word count accepted.

G. Two (2) point deduction will be assessed for

every 100 words or fraction thereof over 2,000.
